Regular folk music summer schools at Burwell House started in 1991 under the direction of Hazel & Greg Smith with the local music charity Duxford Saturday Workshop. Initially created for Shetland Fiddlers, the course has evolved over the years changed hands and names a number of times and introduced accordion, whistle & flute, guitar and eventually melodeon tuition.
In 2001, under the enthusiastic & imaginative direction of Stephen Bardwell & Brian Finnegan it rebranded and became known as 'Burwell Bash'. Stephen ran the course with enthusiasm & dedication until 2015. From 2016 a new team took the reins. The team, consisting of regular students and the former head of centre at Burwell house are keen to continue this fantastic course long into the future, all volunteering their time and expertise to ensure that this happens, with the tutors acting as the joint musical directors. Due to this, all funds generated through the course go back into running Burwell Bash and Burwell House.
